Summer Newsletter 2021

2021 BABY SEASON IN FULL FORCE!

Because of you, all this is possible!

As of the end of April all of last years’ admissions have be released back into the wild with the exceptions of the bears and Mabel the Beaver who will be going shortly. During the month of April we have admitted 4 river otters, a 9 pound bear cub, a baby coyote, 2 beavers and 20 raccoon babies and counting.

COVID 19 has not stopped the influx of babies, nor will it and nor will it stop our staff and interns for being here to care for them. COVID 19 has not stopped all of you from helping us and for this we are forever grateful.

OUR FIRST ADMISSION 2021

MOSES As told by his daddy--- “On the 1st of April 2021, the first baby raccoon of the spring season was brought into Critter Care, orphaned and alone. Like a lot of the animals that come into our care, we cannot be 100% sure what happened, but it was clear that his mom had not been around for a while as he was dehydrated and had an empty stomach. Weighing a minuscule 136 grams and without his siblings, the little guy had a tough few days before getting to us.

My mind instantly went to the story of Moses who was sent down the river in a basket, found alone and orphaned, just like our little raccoon. Moses was the “chosen” one sent to lead his people to freedom. Our little raccoon has now been dubbed Moses, as he is the first of the season.

Unfortunately, a lot of raccoons will come into our care this baby season. Moses is the “chosen” raccoon, sent to us in order to lead all the little critters back to their natural habitat, to freedom, when they are big enough and will not only just survive but thrive in the wild.”

OUR FIRST ON-LINE 50/50

Back in February through April 2nd we held our first ever on-line 50/50 draw. We were a little apprehensive doing this as is all unknowns. However, it started out slowly but as the pot grew so did the participants. We believe a Jackpot of $57,705 not so bad for our first try. The lucky winner, Kim Madill, with ticket #3-001707 walked away with $28,852.50! Congratulations Kim. Thank you all who participated.

If you usually donate by mail, the current Canada Post strike may delay your gift. But there are still simple ways you can support Critter Care Wildlife Society and help ensure that injured and orphaned wildlife continue to receive the care they need.

Raccoons are one of the most familiar and adaptable wild mammals in Southern British Columbia. They have established themselves in forests, wetlands, farmlands, and even our cities, thanks to their clever hands, masked faces, and curious nature.
