How Do I Become an Intern at Critter Care?

Has working closely with animals always been a dream of yours? If you love animals, don't mind getting your hands dirty and are looking for your next great adventure, an internship at Critter Care Wildlife Society could be exactly what you're after.

Critter Care specializes in the treatment, care and release of sick, injured and orphaned native mammals of British Columbia. Our interns and co-op students are right in the middle of it all, helping animals heal and make their way back to the wild.

What you'll do

No two days are quite the same, but here's a taste of what you can expect:

  • Hands on experience with the wide variety of wildlife beautiful British Columbia has to offer
  • Feeding neonate, juvenile and adult animals
  • Administering medications, first aid and wound care
  • Learning how to properly capture and contain wildlife
  • Assisting with rescues and releases
  • Working with some unique and rare mammals
  • Pitching in on building projects and maintenance
  • Informative lessons and team building with the rest of the crew

What you'll get out of it

Interns receive room and board during their stay. When your internship wraps up, you'll also leave with a reference letter, which can go a long way if you're hoping to build a career working with animals. And honestly? Most people leave with something even better: a lifetime of great memories and friends.

Who we're looking for

  • You're at least 18 years old
  • You're a hard worker who isn't afraid to get your hands dirty
  • You're passionate about animals
  • You're flexible. Wildlife doesn't keep a 9 to 5 schedule, and neither do we!
  • You're enthusiastic and a real team player

Previous experience is a plus, but it's not a must. If you're new to wildlife care, don't let that stop you from applying.

How to apply

  1. Learn more about the program on our internship page.
  2. Send your application directly to crittercare7@shaw.ca.

Know someone who checks all the boxes? Pass this along. They might just thank you later!
