First Otter Pup of the Year

On June 17th, Critter Care welcomed its first river otter pup of the year! This little orphaned otter had already endured quite a journey: After being found alone on a road on Vancouver Island, he was rescued by the Salt Spring Island Wildlife Natural Care Center. From there, he traveled by seaplane to Vancouver and was then brought to Critter Care.

Since his arrival, the otter has adjusted well to being hand-fed a replacement milk formula, more than doubling his body weight. He recently moved to an outdoor enclosure and even had his first swims in a small pool!

And soon, he won’t be alone anymore! A little orphaned river otter girl was also recently admitted. She arrived quite skinny and required more intensive care, but the two otters will be ready to join together very soon!
