Dr. I. Elizabeth Borgmann

Veterinarian
Veterinary medicine is Dr. Borgmann’s second career! She started out in molecular biology (gene cloning) and was working for the National Research Council in Saskatoon when her beloved black lab escaped and was hit by a car. Devastated, Dr. Borgmann’s husband took their dog to the Western College of Veterinary Medicine for treatment.

Only then did he find out it was Dr. Borgmann’s life long dream to become a veterinarian. With his encouragement & support she left her career and returned to school. Dr. Borgmann has never looked back! While in Saskatoon Dr. Borgmann worked with the Zoological Society and the Forestry Farm Park and Zoo to develop their interpretive zoo programs and was integral in convincing the city to build an on site hospital for the care & treatment of the animals at the zoo. Dr. Borgmann’s enjoyment of exotic animals continues in her practice today and has shared her home and heart with a variety of exotic pets.

Dr. Borgmann’s other areas of interest in veterinary medicine are pain management, diagnostic imaging and feline medicine. Dr. Borgmann currently lives with 3 cats, a lab, a rabbit and a husband! When not working, Dr. Borgmann enjoys spending time outdoors, gardening and traveling.

Dr. Laura Kortschak

Veterinarian/Owner

Dr. Kortschak, or Dr. K as she is fondly called, graduated from the University of Guelph, with a Bachelor of Science in Animal and Poultry Science in 1982 and from the Ontario Veterinary College with honors, in 1986. She worked at various practices in Southern Ontario until her husband was transferred to Vancouver in 2002. She started working at South Surrey Veterinary Hospital in September of 2002 and quickly came to realize the beauty of the practice and the wonderful clientele it serves. When Dr. Olafson was looking to retire she saw the opportunity of fulfilling a lifelong dream and purchased the practice from him in November of 2008.

She brings with her many ideas from her years of practice and much enthusiasm for making the practice grow and achieve the potential that exists. She has a special interest in dentistry and is very satisfied when a dog or cat’s health improves after a dental. Her favourite part of practice is interacting with the pet’s owners. She enjoys nothing more than sharing a four legged family member’s escapades with their owners or discussing all your concerns for your pet’s health.
Dr, Kortschak and her husband Ernie have 3 wonderful children, Eric, Collin and Meaghan who are well on their way to being grown up, with all three in post secondary schooling.

She has two cats “Kevin” and “Russell”, and her beloved black lab “Gracie” who enjoys coming to work with her. Ernie can be seen around the clinic as he helps with office work and maintenance. In her spare time, Dr. K sings with the Church choir, enjoys fitness classes and has been having fun training Gracie in obedience and agility. She also recently got back into performing in community theatre.

Dr. Kortschak is a member of the BCVMA, CVMA and the SVBC She also works a few shifts a month at the Animal Emergency Clinic of the Fraser Valley. She would like to see South Surrey Veterinary Hospital active in the community by visiting schools, cub groups and hosting special events at the hospital.
