| When I first arrived at Critter Care I'll
admit that I was a little nervous because I
was one of those people who thought of raccoons
as vicious pests that steal your birdfeeders
from your trees. After meeting the raccoons
my opinion immediately changed. Their cute little
faces and curious nature made me fall instantly
in love. I was amazed at how much I was able to do when
I started my work experience at Critter Care.
I had no idea that they would let me do so much
hands on work such as play with the raccoons
and help out with examinations. I learned a
lot about how to handle and restrain the animals
and also what kind of foods they like to eat
and play with. Even when there wasn't a whole
lot to do the raccoons always kept me entertained
by showing off their ability to be ever so cute!
Even though my work experience is over I will
definitely be back to volunteer my time with
the animals. I've never been in a working environment
where I've had so much fun and felt so comfortable
with the people around me. Suzanne and Christi
were very helpful and taught me a lot, and Gail
taught me that her babies are always the cutest!
I feel that I am very fortunate to have been
able to work at your organization because you
guys really do an incredible thing for the wildlife
of B.C. |
| From the first time I heard about Critter
Care and the things they do for their animals
I knew this is where I wanted to spend my 3
weeks of work experience. From the little Squirrels
to the Big Bobcat, each animal is different
and they are all treated like individuals. Each
animal is given a second chance here while we
get the experience to watch them recuperate
and then be released into their natural habitat. While here I learned about the raccoons diet
and which raccoons likes what best, I learned
how to clean their cages, and most of all how
to interact with the animals and see how they
live and how important they are.
I am so amazed at how Critter Care takes such
good care of these animals, how much time, effort,
and love they put into these creatures to make
sure that they are comfortable and happy so
that they can one day be released back into
the wild. I think every one here has done an
amazing job and I want to thank Gail, Christi,
Suzanne, and everyone else who makes Critter
Care the wonderful place it is and to let me
come for a few weeks and be a part of it. |
