Life is about moments and no greater moment in rehab occurs than when you finally stand back in the animals natural surroundings ready to release them back to where they belong. It is a bitter sweet minute for many as they give up the bond that was built between caregiver and infant and watch as they quietly walk back into freedom. Each release is different some linger wondering about their vast new world others dash off in minutes to never be seen again and still others turn and look back as if to say "thanks I can do it on my own now." Seldom will you see a dry eye on a release, but it is as it should be for "parting is such sweet sorrow."
In each of the photos below you will see some of our most recent releases the first of these being Ellie and Alvin our beaver kits 2009 who were in care for over nine months and were successfully released back into a vast watershed in the upper Fraser Valley as far from human habitation as possible.
Beaver release
In March we released three of the four raccoon groups still in care over the winter. Alize, Ashleigh, Pia, Thomas, Angela all can be commended for a job well done in parenting as many of their children stayed up to one year in care! We thank them and the many other interns and volunteers that helped these beautiful orphans find their way back into the natural world.
