Sophie Ding  -  Paris, France

After I heard about this internship in Canada, I knew that I needed to experience this awesome adventure with animals. What I didn't know is that I'd learn much more than I could ever think about. Being an intern at Critter Care Wildlife Society is way more than taking care of injured or orphaned animals, it's also about learning how to rule your life and be responsible for a creature and the center you are working for. After this experience, I've discovered a new part of my personality that I probably would have never learned back home. Also, my English improved very quickly because everyone need to speak English here, no matter where people came from.

Sophie with her Skunks

In the 3 months of my internship, I had the chance to work with raccoons, skunks, opossums, squirrels, bunnies, a chipmunk. Additionally, in preparation for the open house, on the 9th and the 10th of  July 2011, I took part in many tasks including building, painting, mowing, digging etc. I also had the chance to be a driver during my stay and go from time to time to different market places to bring back donated produce for the animals. I even got to assist in a necropsy conducted by our lovely Sara Frost, Supervisor Helper.

I will miss being here because I've learned so much from the people, the interns, the supervisors and the other volunteers and because the whole experience was brilliant. I'm really thankful to Gail Martin, who started this beautiful story for a peaceful sanctuary for wildlife and let young interns like me to stay on site and have an opportunity to work with them.
