Critter Care Wildlife Society is a member of both the National and International Rehabilitation Associations and provides services not filled by any other wildlife society in south-western British Columbia. The Society is entirely volunteer driven and relies solely upon the generosity of the public by way of memberships, donations, grants, and bequests. The cost of rehabilitation is high. A single raccoon, while in care, can eat its way through $1,500 worth of food. Construction materials for a "coondominium" (a large cage designed to house a group of raccoons over the winter) can cost $10,000. Added to this is the expense of heating pads, syringes for feeding, bedding, medicines, laundry, and special food. Caregivers donate their time, as do volunteers who build cages, lay cement floors, pick up and transport animals, and seek out release sites, but the need for funds grows daily.
