Pia Wegmueller - Animal Care Supervisor
Born and raised in Switzerland, Pia first studied Architecture after finishing high school, but then decided to go into Web and Graphic Design. She worked in Switzerland as a Web and Graphic Designer for more than 6 years. Pia came to Vancouver in 2008 to improve her English. She fell in love with Critter Care Wildlife Society during her first 2 month internship in the Summer of 2009.
Raising her first baby raccoons opened her eyes to what she really wanted to do in her life: Caring for animals. Nothing is more rewarding and satisfying than helping those little, helpless, innocent creatures!
After applying, Pia was accepted for another internship with Critter Care. During this year long internship she had the opportunity to take care of mainly: raccoons, opossums, beavers, squirrels and weasels - ages ranged from neonate to adult. She was also trained in examination, medication, rescue, catching and releases of animals.
The year went by too quickly and there was not enough time to learn everything. Luckily for Pia, a supervisor position became vacant in August 2010 and she was hired as Animal Care Assistant.
Now Pia is learning new things every day about 'her' beloved animals from co-workers, books and online courses. She loves her work, her animals and her Critter Care Family!
